Set Goals that Motivate You - Motivation is key to achieving goals. It’s all about YOU and what makes you tick. If a goal is important to you and you believe that there is value in achieving it then there is a bigger chance, actually the best chance, to achieve it.
Set SMART Goals – It’s cliché but it is working. Goals need to be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bound.
Set Goals in Writing – Setting your goals in writing and using the correct language increases commitment, clarity and works as visualization and affirmation further enhancing the chance of success. There are many studies proving this. By writing down your goals you automatically increase their likelihood of success because you engage more with them (You Write - You See - You Think). Scripta manent as the ancient Latin proverb goes. Not only the writing remains and serves as a record but it haunts you until you do it.
Create an Action Plan – You need to take care of the logistics. There are many ways to create an action plan. It could be a mind-map or a project path. You need to break down your goal into small steps and follow them. Everest was climbed by taking thousands of small steps.
Stay Committed– Don’t give up. Whatever the obstacles on the way, persist and persevere. Focusing and sticking with the goal as long as it takes encompasses flexibility because in the course of implementation parameters may change and adjustments may need to be made. As long as you don’t lose sight of the goal you will achieve it. The only difference between a successful person and a non-successful one is the latter quit whereas the successful didn’t.
Don't lose sight of your Ithaca! Ithaca is there waiting for you. Just keep walking!
